Trump’s Gold Card: A New Path to USA Citizenship 2025
President Donald Trump unveiled a fresh immigration plan, including a “gold card” visa scheme that would grant $5 million investors US residency and a route to citizenship.
“We’re going to be selling a gold card,” Trump said at the Oval Office while signing executive orders alongside Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. “We’re putting a price on that card of about $5 million, and that’s going to give you green card privileges.
” Lutnick confirmed that participants would be required to pay the fee directly to the US government. “Rather than having this sort of ridiculous EB-5 program, we’re going to end it and replace it with the Trump gold card,” he said.
He added that applicants would still undergo vetting to ensure they are “wonderful, world-class, global citizens.” The funds generated from the program would be used to reduce the federal deficit, Lutnick said.
The announcement comes as Trump continues to enforce stricter immigration policies in his second term, pledging the largest deportation effort in US history while securing the southern border.
He has also threatened Canada and Mexico with tariffs unless they take stronger action against the flow of fentanyl, other illegal drugs, and undocumented migrants into the US
The Trump Gold Card: What is it?
A proposed immigration plan called the Trump Gold Card would provide affluent foreign investors the same benefits as a green card, opening the door to permanent US residency and ultimately citizenship. The Gold Card is much more expensive at $5 million than the current EB-5 visa program, which requires a minimum investment of $1,050,000 (or $1,050,000 or $800,000 in economically challenged areas).
The goal of the Gold Card, which President Trump announced during a recent press briefing, is to make it easier for wealthy people to invest in the US economy. Trump stressed that the initiative would draw “wealthy people” who are prepared to make big financial contributions in
Key Features of the Gold Card Program
- $5 Million Investment Requirement: The Gold Card demands a significantly higher investment compared to the EB-5 program, targeting ultra-wealthy individuals.
- Green Card Privileges: Investors will receive green card benefits, including the right to live and work in the US permanently.
- Path to Citizenship: The program offers a clear route to US citizenship for participants and their families.
- Replacement of EB-5: The Gold Card will entirely replace the EB-5 visa program, which has been criticized for its inefficiencies and susceptibility to fraud.
